Care – R & D Week

Care Team PhotoWillFredd theatre are joined in the rehearsal room this week by a very talented group of actors, musicians, dancers, designers, dramaturgs and directors, to explore the beginnings of their new project, Care. Care is inspired by the palliative care workers who work in hospices and as home carers. Lets not give too much away too soon, but have a look at a few of the quotes below to give you an idea of the themes we’re working with.

“adding life to days, not days to life”

“the living are the dead on holiday”

“You’re going against that Hyppocratic Oath. You trained to cure, and this is incurable. All you can do is relieve Symptoms.”

Richard II – John of Gaunt:

O but they say the tongues of dying men Enforce attention like deep harmony. Where words are scarce, they are seldom spent in vain, For they breathe truth that breathe their words in pain. He that no more must say is listened more Than they whom youth and ease have taught to glose. More are men’s ends mark’d than their lives before. The setting sun, and music at the close, As the last taste of sweets, is sweetest last, Writ in remembrance more than things long past.

My death’s sad tale may yet undeaf his ear.

Gaunt am I for the grave, gaunt as a grave, Whose hollow womb inherits nought but bones.

“I was able to do that for her, only because of her. D’you know what I mean? It was like, it felt like a full circle.”
