Shane O’Reilly in interview, 4th September 2011
“The theme for this year’s festival is Brave new World and what we’re looking at is a new style of performance and something I think an audience won’t have seen before,” says O’Reilly, who has devised a one-man show that combines sign language with words. O’Reilly’s parents are deaf and he grew up in a house with doorbell lights. He will sign and speak his way through the show.
He believes the Fringe is about trying new styles and collaborations. “The deaf audience tend to see very few pieces of theatre that have the funding to be signed. We wanted to make this for a hybrid audience and it was curated for both audiences to get maximum enjoyment and information.”
